It’s Zero Emissions Day on September 21, so take a Tesla to work instead of your usual taxi now that Dubai has added 50 of them to the Emirates taxi fleet.
Move over hybrid taxi, in comes the fully electric ride home.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that 50 Tesla electric cars have been added to the fleet of Dubai taxis.
The move means commuters like you and I can, if we’re lucky, catch one of these sleek, eco -friendly rides home.
‘The RTA has recently taken delivery of 50 Tesla vehicles as part of a deal for 200 vehicles signed last February on the side lines of the World Government Summit 2017’, said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA.

‘The Dubai Taxi Corporation has coordinated with the concerned parties to provide the needed infrastructure to ensure the operation of these vehicles including the provision of 13 electric recharging stations,’ he added.
The vehicles joining the fleet come in two models, the (S) sedan, and the (X) SUV. The latter – which is fitted with a panoramic windshield, can cover the longest distance amongst electric vehicles and has been rated as the safest EV cars on the market.
After this first batch of 50 EV’s hit the roads, 75 more will be with us in 2018 and a final 75 are set to be delivered in 2019.
While no price has been given for the green ride home yet, the RTA say on Twitter that when booking a taxi, mention you are requesting a Tesla, alternatively fill out a booking form via firstname.lastname@example.org or Email: email@example.com for more information.
