Careem is introducing a new ‘Tip Matching’ feature this Ramadan, pledging to double customer tips of AED 10 or more for ride-hailing and delivery Captains across the UAE.
Running from February 18 to March 19, the initiative will see the company match eligible tips dirham-for-dirham at no additional cost to customers. The full amount, including the matched contribution, will go directly to Captains, including Hala Taxi drivers operating via the Careem platform.
The move comes as Ramadan traditionally sees a rise in generosity, with customers tipping more frequently during the Holy Month.

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and co-founder of Careem, described Captains as ‘the heartbeat of Careem,’ noting that many continue to work long hours while fasting.
‘This year, we are doubling the impact of our customers’ kindness: 100 per cent of every tip goes directly to our Captains, and Careem will match it dirham-for-dirham,’ he said, adding that the initiative reflects the company’s value of being ‘Generous.’
Under the new feature, when a customer tips AED 10 or more after completing a ride, Hala Taxi trip or delivery order – including Careem Food, Quik, Shops and Box – the company will automatically match the amount. All tips are transferred immediately to the Captain’s Careem Pay account, allowing instant access or bank transfer.
Careem Tips Building a Future
For many Captains, tips represent more than a small bonus. Muhammad Shahbaz, who has worked on the platform for five years, said his earnings have enabled him to build a home and provide his children with an education. ‘When someone tips me, I know exactly where that money is going, straight to my family’s future,’ he said.

Similarly, Adeel Muhammad, a Captain since 2018, said his work has helped him build a double-storey house in Pakistan, put his four children through school, and support his mother’s medical needs. ‘Every ride, every tip, it all adds up. It’s how I provide for the people who depend on me,’ he said.
Beyond tip matching, both companies say they will also distribute daily Iftar meals to Captains across the UAE throughout Ramadan, enabling those breaking their fast while working to access a warm meal on the road.
The initiative forms part of a broader support structure for Captains, which includes flexible earning opportunities and insurance programmes.
Customers can access the feature by updating the Careem app and tipping AED 10 or more after completing an eligible ride or delivery during the campaign period.
