The Year of Sustainability announcement was made to mark National Environment Day

UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has marked the 27th National Environment Day by declaring that the country’s Year of Sustainability will continue throughout 2024.

He said the decision underlined the country’s efforts to ‘protect and preserve the environment for the benefit of future generations’.

Sheikh Mohamed announced the themed Year of Sustainability on January 20 last year, which also saw Dubai host the UN Cop28 summit on climate change.

The continuation announcement was made on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Throughout 2023, the Year of Sustainability championed raising awareness of the UAE’s sustainability values, encouraging behaviour changes that result in progress on environmental issues.

This year it will continues to invite everyone in the UAE to join in the collective effort to adopt sustainable practices through a range of community-driven initiatives and activities.

The Year of Sustainability team is extending its invitation to individuals and communities to engage in shaping initiatives for the coming year.

All ideas for impactful activities, innovative initiatives, and community-driven projects are welcomed and can be shared via email at Contact@UAEYearOf.ae

The activities will be overseen by HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and HH Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Quality of Education Centre.
